Sclerotherapy For Varicose & Spider Veins Treatment In Miami

varicose

Sclerotherapy is the safest and best treatment for eliminating spider veins on the legs. The process involves injecting a very small needle into the spider vein with hypertonic saline. This causes an inflammatory reaction and the gradual fading of treated vessels over a period of several weeks. Sclerotherapy usually requires about 2 to 6 sessions, depending on the area being treated.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins (also called telangiectasias) are clusters of tiny blood vessels that develop just under the surface of the skin. They are often found on the legs, and have a red or purple color in the shape of a spider web. While they often to do not lead to complications, spider vein treatment and spider vein removal are available for aesthetic reasons.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are large, gnarled, and twisted veins that can be seen through the skin (or they can even bulge out from under it), and appear to be red or purple. They often appear on the legs and while they are mostly an aesthetic blemish, they can develop uncomfortable symptoms like:

  • Swelling,
  • Throbbing, and
  • Aching.

There are varicose vein treatments that can remove both the aesthetic blemish and the painful symptoms.

What Causes Varicose And Spider Veins?

The varicose vein and spider vein causes are due partly to genetics and partly to lifestyle habits. Specifically, they are caused when a valve in a vein becomes defective, allowing backflow and pooling of blood. This weakens the blood vessel wall, causing it to become engorged and turning into a spider vein or varicose vein. The risks of varicose and spider vein formation increase with age and a sedentary lifestyle, however, it can be mitigated by activity and exercise that promotes blood flow, as well as a healthy diet.

Vein Treatment

There are many treatments in existence for both varicose and spider veins. Lifestyle changes, laser vein treatment and vein surgery all allow you to remove a spider vein or a varicose vein. However, since the 1930s sclerotherapy has been the procedure of choice.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is one of the safest and sure-fire ways of treating both varicose and spider veins. What it entails is a physician injecting a solution (often a saline solution) into the affected varicose or spider vein. This causes the vein wall to collapse, and eventually the vein will fade away. For larger veins and optimal results, several sessions may be required.
