Best Surgeons For Eyelid Surgery Miami
At Miami Plastic Surgery®, we want you to look your best — whatever that means to you — down to the finest details. To do that, our board-certified facial plastic surgeons, backed by numerous credentials, specialize in various treatments, such as blepharoplasty.
Before diving in, it's important to understand what the surgery entails. Here's everything you need to know to feel confident and informed on your journey to revitalizing your eyes.
What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty refers to eyelid surgery, particularly for those unsatisfied with their eyelids' sagging or droopy appearance. During this minimally invasive procedure, we try to enhance your eyes by removing excess skin around them and tightening the remainder to leave you feeling renewed and rejuvenated.
Many eyelid surgery methods exist due to the delicacy of the upper lid, lower lid, or both. You may want to create a better crease in the eyelid. You may even combine blepharoplasty with a facelift or brow lift for a more noticeable result. During your first consultation, you and your practitioner will discuss the results you hope to achieve and which approach will help you most.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Excessive skin around the eye could be caused by a condition called dermatochalasis or ptosis, which happens when the eyelid muscle weakens. We understand that draping skin around the eyes can obscure your vision. Here are a few factors that make you a good candidate for eyelid surgery:
- You have excess skin or puffiness around the eyes: These are common reasons why people undergo eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty can address these concerns, creating a fresher, more awake appearance.
- You are in good physical and emotional health:Â Ideal candidates are generally healthy without serious eye conditions, chronic illness, or underlying medical conditions that could affect healing.
- You have realistic expectations going into this procedure:Â Understanding the potential results and limitations of eyelid surgery is essential. The best candidates have a clear picture of what the surgery can achieve with realistic goals.
What Happens During a Blepharoplasty?
When you come in for your appointment, our patient care team will lead you to a private procedure room where you can prepare in peace. You'll speak with your facial plastic surgeon to ensure you're on the same page, and then they'll get started.
Blepharoplasty procedures require local anesthesia to relax your eye muscles and intravenous therapy (IV) sedation to keep you unconscious. To keep scarring at a minimum, we place small incisions in your eyelids' natural creases and lash lines. Then, we'll remove skin and fat and rearrange as necessary until the result looks as close to your specifications.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Eyelid Surgery?
Since eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, we let you go home on the same day as your appointment. Make sure you have someone who can drive you home following the surgery and help you out as you begin recovery.
We recommend you give yourself a recovery time of one to two weeks, during which time your full attention is on resting and recuperating. Around days 10-14, you can resume normal activities as you feel ready to. By this time, the results will be mostly visible, although complete healing may take a few months.
During recovery, you may notice some swelling, bruising, and irritation, which you can soothe with a cold compress or prescribed medicine. Before the site heals fully, wear sunscreen and darkly tinted sunglasses whenever you go outside.
